iPhone 9 Release Date, Specs, Price
With many Apple fans eagerly awaiting the imminent arrival of the iPhone 8, some new information has come to light on iPhone 9 specs. It is already expected that the iPhone 8 will feature a display larger than any previous Apple smartphone, but this will seemingly be extended further still when the iPhone 9 arrives.
Apple is widely expected to introduce the first ever wraparound OLED display in iPhone history when the iPhone 8 lands. While this screen size will reportedly be 5.8-inches, it seems that the iPhone 9 display sizes will exceed even this.
According to sources close to the Apple supply chain, the consumer electronics giant will reveal two separate OLED iPhone devices in 2018. These will include a 5.85-inch sequel to the forthcoming OLED iPhone 8, with a new 6.46-inch model presumably being branded as a Plus device. This latter handset would be the first ever release from Apple to have a display in excess of six-inches.
Rumors also indicate that Apple has begun collaborating with Samsung Display and other manufacturers of components on the 2018 iPhone release. This is considerably sooner than would usually be expected, but this could be explained by the new and large iPhone 9 Plus release.
The iPhone 9 display sizes may come as a slight surprise, as Apple has plowed its own unique furrow in the smartphone market. While other manufacturers such as Samsung have been enthusiastic about the large phablet concept, Apple has shied away from this to a great extent.
When it comes to the specs of the proposed iPhone 9, Apple may particularly focus on the battery capacity of the device. Reports have indicated that the forthcoming iPhone 8 will employ the use of a substrate-like PCB. This technology is also expected to be used in the Galaxy S9 next year, enabling the battery capacity in both smartphones to be increased.
This could enable the iPhone 9 to embrace a particularly large battery, which when coupled with power-saving functionality built into the iOS 11 and future iOS 12 operating systems, will result in a significantly improved lifecycle.
Aside from the iPhone 9 display sizes, it is possible that the resolution of these handsets could also be rather impressive. Apple has resisted the temptation to become obsessed with resolution in the manner of other smartphone manufacturers, but could imbue the iPhone 9 with 4K capabilities.
This would make particular sense if Apple is committed to developing both augmented reality and virtual reality functionality in the future, which would represent an excellent selling point for the iPhone 9. It would also enable the handset to respond directly to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 generations, with one of these Samsung devices almost certain to embrace 4K resolution.
Meanwhile, Apple’s cooperation with Samsung is increasing, with the Korean company already involved in the production of displays for the iPhone 8. This is then expected to extend into the iPhone 9 series, although the involvement of LG is also likely.
As the smartphone niche faces increasing challenges from a lack of new equipment and innovative features, the iPhone 8 will provide an intriguing insight into the future direction of the technology. The market leaders are searching for a new killer feature to reinvigorate the public imagination, and the iPhone 9 will certainly have to deliver this in order to build on the tenth anniversary iPhone 8. The price of the iPhone 9 is expected to start from 1000USD and will be released in September 2018.
